I'm on Substack!
whoami?
I’m Jawick, a CS student with a passion for user-centered design. I love coming up with solutions to inefficient workflows and solving sticking points in the ways that people live and work. This ranges from designing keyboards that optimise your typing experience, to putting intentional thought into the items you carry every day (EDC).
This newsletter is for providing updates on the projects that I get so much joy from working on as well as sharing my thoughts about my favourite hobbies or the state of the internet as a whole.
Why Substack?
As a reader, I dislike social media. If there’s a creator who’s work I’d like to keep up with, I want to be able to follow them and receive posts from only them. I don’t want any algorithm deciding what I should and shouldn’t read.
That’s why we’re here, on Substack! At its core, this is a newsletter that you can subsribe to, you’ll receive email updates straight into your inbox. You also have the option to read the posts right here via the website or mobile app.
With that said, I’m not abandoning social media entirely. I still think the rapid sharing of ideas and the discoverability is a useful tool to share my work. You can follow me on social media if you like but this newsletter will be the root where all the content will originate from.
How this is going to work
The Substack platform has “sections” that I will use to categorise my posts.
The default section/homepage will be for “meta” style posts about the publication as a whole, like this one, as well as topics that don’t easily fit in a category. I will then be using specific themed sections for individual projects.
If you like me and find my work interesting, you can subscribe to the publication in its entirety and be notified of all my upcoming projects.
If you’re only interested in a specific section, you can choose which ones you are notified for in your subscription preferences.
I want people to subscribe if my work provides value to them. If it doesn’t, then this is no more than another newsletter that gets sent straight to the spam folder.
Engaging discussion is where all of my ideas come from, so this is something I’d like to cultivate in my community. If you’re a Substack user, each post will have a comment section where I’ll be eagerly waiting to hear your thoughts. There is also a chat forum where you can share your ideas and opinions.
I’ve got lots of projects in the works that I can’t wait to share with you. If that’s something you’re interested in then a subscription is the best way to keep up to date!
Keep hacking!
